The Engaging People project was a team effort to tell the stories of people in Columbia, MO who are both engaging the community and have engaging personalities.
A new story was added each week during the summer and fall of 2009 at columbiamissourian.com, and the project was a group multimedia finalist in the College Photographer of the Year contest.
I designed the Flash project and used the photographic concept of framing to have all the slideshows frame the one currently playing. I also liked how the home button changed positions depending on the story being viewed.
The action scripting was a challenge and the IT department at the University of Missouri helped at several occasions. Once the coding framework was set up, it was relatively easy to tweak the code and update the project week by week.
Overall, I think it turned out as a different and effective showcase (check out John Schreiber’s piece on the ghost hunters) for some interesting stories.
