Little Drummer Girl premiere

Little Drummer Girl premiere

I’ve been hard at work finishing up the grade and trailer for the Little Drummer Girl short film, which premieres July 17th at the St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase with additional festivals to follow. So here’s raft of goodies below. I’ve included the trailer, graded stills from the film and a lightbox of all the shots just because I always find it interesting to see color palettes in a project. This represents quite a bit of work over the past year since principle filming concluded last summer. This slideshow requires... read more

Moving to 90

Wow. Long time, no blog! Things have been very busy the last several months, the major news being that I joined 90 Degrees West in November after five years at Reliv. 90 is an amazing place, full of talented people and clients, doing some of the best work in the midwest. It’s been crazy busy in my hybrid role in operations, grading, production and post. So much more to share regarding multiple film and commercial projects coming out soon. In the meantime, here’s one of my last projects for Reliv — completed at 90 — for the launch of Reliv’s fitness program, Fit3. Shot, edited and graded by yours truly on the Red Epic with super speed and Cooke lenses.... read more

War paint! Screen grabs from recent shoot

Recently completed a fun shoot for the opening video for the Reliv International Conference in St. Louis. Yes, I’ve watched Braveheart (and Gladiator). But I doubt they tried to shoot either in the St. Louis heat and humidity! Special thanks to everyone involved, and I’ll post the full video soon. Shot on the Red Epic and Scarlet.          ... read more

Sandy Montgomery award for Reliv

I recently had the chance to shoot and grade the Sandy Montgomery award video for Reliv International. The video honors Reliv co-founder Sandy Montgomery, who passed away last year, and hopefully will inspire Reliv distributors to earn the glass-blown award through sales volume. The piece was shot on location at a nice home and the Third Degree Glass factory here in St. Louis with the Red Scarlet as well as Red Pro and Zeiss standard speed lenses. The video begins at about the 1:06 mark. Nicely mixed by Smith-Lee studios and edited alongside Daniel... read more
Feature film work

Feature film work

I am excited to announce that I have agreed to be the lead colorist for my first feature film, Grandmothers Murder Club. It’s an independent dark comedy shot here in St. Louis starring Florence Henderson (The Brady Bunch, etc.), Judge Reinhold (Fast Times at Ridgemont High, etc.), Pam Grier and other current Hollywood movie and TV actors. Shot beautifully by Chris Benson of Lamplight Films and directed by St. Louis’ Srikant Chellappa, the film follows the exploits of a group of crazy old, Southern ladies who experience a bunch of comic mishaps and get themselves in some ridiculous situations — in the vein of a movie like Arsenic and Old Lace. As of earlier this month, the film reached its Kickstarter goal to be fully funded through post production. You can learn more about the film on its Kickstarter page, its Facebook page and IMDB page. So far, I have completed a full first pass of the film (meaning I’ve at least touched every shot) and now look to get it through the review process and final look development. Below are a couple early screen grabs.  ... read more
Reliv Travel Promo: New York City

Reliv Travel Promo: New York City

Recently, I had the chance to travel to New York city to film a promotional piece about earning sales incentive trips for top sales leaders in Reliv’s European market. See the embedded video above. Since Europe is a little more sophisticated visually, I decided to go a darker route with the video and was inspired by the two videos below. It was fun to deliberately set several creative parameters for the shoot: no wide shots, all tight closeups, handheld at high frame rates, everything 1-2 stops underexposed and mostly at night. I figured everyone has seen wide shots of NYC and big cities so I wanted to find more creative ways to showcase the destination: the flicker of video billboards in someone’s eyes, a taxi reflected in a puddle, etc. Things that said New York without spoon feeding the audience. The piece was shot primarily on the just-released Canon c300 Mkii and a 50mm 1.4 lens, both of which performed phenomenally for the most part. Time lapses were done on the 5d Mkiii. Some of the shots were lit with nothing but tea candles because that’s all I had in a run-n-gun scenario filming people on their vacations.    ... read more

The project page for “Sophie,” the short film I shot and graded earlier this year, has been updated with highlights of selected scenes and shots from the full movie. It’s set to the film’s title track “Out of Your Head” by Sinfinis. The video is embedded above or click here to go to the page.... read more
